# Upload files

Upload files and folders from your browser to the server.

## Upload methods

### Drag and drop

1. Open WebFTP for a server (launch **File transfer** from your [work session](/use/work-sessions/))
2. Navigate to the destination folder
3. Drag files into the browser window—the upload starts automatically

### New menu

Click **New** and choose:

- **Upload files**: select one or more files
- **Upload a folder**: select a whole folder (its structure is preserved)
- **New folder**: create an empty folder

## Duplicate and conflicting names

If a file you're uploading already exists, an **Upload options** dialog asks how to proceed:

- **Replace existing file**: overwrite it with the new version.
- **Keep both files**: upload the new file under a renamed copy.

If the name exists but as a different type (a file vs. a folder), an **Upload not allowed** dialog explains that a file can't replace a folder (or vice versa). Use a different name or delete the existing item first.

## Transfer status

A transfer status panel shows progress per item and lets you cancel an in-progress transfer. Folder uploads show a **Compressing** step before transfer.

## Upload limits

Your plan limits how much you transfer with WebFTP each month, not the size of each file. On a plan with a transfer limit, once the month's volume is used up, a new upload or download is refused until the period resets; a transfer already in progress completes. See your workspace's remaining volume on the [Usage page](/use/workspace/plans-billing/#where-to-see-your-workspaces-usage).
