# Supported platforms

Check the operating system and architecture before installing Alpamon. For the installation steps, see [Install Alpamon](/use/servers/register/install/).

## Supported platforms

Alpamon ships official builds for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

| Platform | Versions | Architecture |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Linux | Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 11+, RHEL / Rocky / AlmaLinux 8+, Oracle Linux 8+, Amazon Linux 2 / 2023, Fedora (current or previous release), Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit), openSUSE Leap 15+ / SLES 15+ (best-effort) | amd64, arm64 |
| macOS | 11 (Big Sur) or later | amd64 (Intel), arm64 (Apple Silicon) |
| Windows | Windows Server 2019 / 2022 / 2025, Windows 10 1803+, Windows 11 | amd64 |

openSUSE Leap 15+ and SLES 15+ are supported on a best-effort basis, with registration-token installation only. The Ansible registration guide does not cover openSUSE or SLES.

### Feature scope per platform

Linux and macOS expose Alpacon's full feature set, including user and group management and Unix-style permission changes (`chmod` / `chown`). Windows servers support a subset, and some features need a minimum Alpamon version. [Windows servers](/reference/platforms/windows/#what-works-on-windows) lists them in one table and covers the SYSTEM permission model, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

Ubuntu 25.10 and later (including 26.04) ship **sudo-rs** as the default `sudo`. Alpacon supports it for [sudo with MFA](/use/work-sessions/terminal/sudo-with-mfa/), which requires the `alpamon-pam` package version 1.1.2 or later. See [Compatibility with sudo-rs](/use/work-sessions/terminal/sudo-with-mfa/#compatibility-with-sudo-rs), and [PAM and sudo issues](/use/work-sessions/terminal/troubleshoot-sudo/) for troubleshooting.

## Windows differences

Windows has a different account and permission model. Review the [Windows feature and identity reference](/reference/platforms/windows/) before granting access.

## Installation prerequisites

The host needs administrator privileges, outbound HTTPS access, 150 MB of free disk space, and 128 MB of available RAM. See [Install Alpamon](/use/servers/register/install/#prerequisites) for the full checklist.
